Biltmore–Cumberland Historic District

The Biltmore–Cumberland Historic District is a United States historic district in Lakeland, Florida, that was established on June 4, 2004. South Ingraham Avenue, East Lime Street, Bartow Road, Hollingsworth Road, and McDonald Place are the boundaries of the district. There are 201 historic buildings in this small, established neighborhood, many of which are single-story frame vernacular dwellings erected in the 1950s. The landscape of this area, which is surrounded by South Ingraham Avenue, East Lime Street, Bartow Road, Hollingsworth Road, and Frank Lloyd Wright Way, is also dotted with older homes erected in the 1920s, gorgeous two-story structures, and many brick-paved lanes. Francis Boulevard features a tree-lined median, making it unusual in the neighborhood. Many of the properties in this area are ideal for first-time homeowners or those who want to get their hands dirty with home remodeling work. While this area has several wonderfully preserved homes, there are also plenty that are ready to be renovated and restored to their former grandeur. Biltmore-Cumberland is located just east of downtown Lakeland, adjacent to some of Lakeland’s most beloved monuments. Nearby are the Polk Museum of Art and the public library, as well as Florida Southern College with its Frank Lloyd Wright-designed campus. The area is bordered by Lakeland Senior High School/Harrison School for the Arts, which is home to the legendary Dreadnaughts football team, which has won six state championships and two national championships. This area is also adjacent to Lake Morton, which is home to the majority of the city’s royal swans. Hundreds of additional waterfowl species use this lake. Every fall, the First United Methodist Church on Lake Morton hosts a pumpkin patch that serves as a terrific photo opportunity as well as providing families with the main ingredient for pumpkin pie and jack-o-lanterns. The annual MidFlorida Mayfaire-by-the-Lake, a juried art show held each Mother’s Day weekend, is also hosted at Lake Morton. Biltmore-Cumberland is a short walk or bike ride from two of Lakeland’s most popular eateries. Red Door Wine Market is a casual restaurant providing upmarket food, wine, and craft beer for customers seeking a casual bistro experience. Mister Fish, which has been in business since 1968, is the place to go for some of the tastiest fish sandwiches, corn fritters, and freshly made lemonade in town. Residents of Biltmore-Cumberland may go shopping in adjacent Dixieland and downtown Lakeland. Residents in this area enjoy the convenience of being near downtown Lakeland while still enjoying the peace and quiet of small-town living.
